Rebbel Ashes Endorses Socrate Safo’s Call: “GHAMRO Must Wake Up – Musicians Deserve Transparency and Justice
Belgium-based Ghanaian artiste Rebbel Ashes has added his powerful voice to support filmmaker and creative advocate Socrate Safo’s recent statement urging the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) to strictly enforce radio logging and reporting of music use across the country.
Socrate Safo, in his statement titled “Musicians Must Demand Action: GHAMRO Must Enforce Radio Logging of Music Use,” highlighted how many Ghanaian musicians continue to lose out on royalties because most radio stations fail to log and report the songs they play — a legal requirement under the Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690) and the Copyright Regulations, 2010 (L.I. 1962).
Rebbel Ashes, known for hits such as “Obolobo” and “Activate,” fully endorsed Safo’s position, describing it as “a bold and necessary wake-up call for the Ghanaian music industry.”
“What Socrate Safo said is the absolute truth,” Rebbel Ashes emphasized. “Our music keeps radio stations alive — from morning shows to adverts and jingles yet the musicians behind these songs are often left empty-handed. This is not fair. GHAMRO must wake up and enforce the law. It’s about time musicians received what they rightfully deserve.”
He further noted that while musicians are often encouraged to register their works, GHAMRO has failed to ensure accountability and transparency in monitoring radio play logs that determine royalty distribution.
“You can’t distribute what you don’t track,” Rebbel Ashes said. “If there are no proper logs, how can GHAMRO calculate what each artist deserves? The laws are clear, but the enforcement is weak. Enough of the silence — it’s time for action.”
The Europe-based artiste also called on fellow Ghanaian musicians, producers, and songwriters to unite and demand transparency and accountability from GHAMRO and broadcasters across the nation.
“This is not about attacking anyone; it’s about demanding structure,” he continued. “Our creative industry can’t grow if musicians keep losing income from airplay. Let’s all stand behind Socrate Safo’s call because when our music is respected by law, the entire industry benefits.”
Rebbel Ashes concluded with a strong message to the media and entertainment stakeholders, urging them to amplify this national conversation and push for reform that ensures fairness for every Ghanaian musician.
“This is the kind of conversation that can reshape our music industry for generations. Let’s move beyond words and make sure every artist gets what they deserve.”
